About SOFHA

SOFHA GmbH was founded in West Berlin, Germany in 1981.

SOFHA is a powerful partner for original equipment manufacturers who want to integrate superior and versatile printing technology into their products. Many well-known digital copier and printer manufacturers already made use of SOFHA’s engineering services.

Besides their engineering services SOFHA offers turnkey solution products for the digital printing industry which are sold through selected distributors and dealers. Due to our rapid growth we are still looking for distributors and dealers throughout the world who are interested in joining the SOFHA success story.

SOFHA technologies and innovations are designed to meet the requirements of the light production, digital print shop and networked office markets.

Company history

For two decades, SOFHA has been part of the development of PostScript. In 1984 SOFHA started to develop PostScript compatible SofhaSCRIPT products: technologies, printing emulations, network communication protocols, document workflow solutions and graphical user interfaces.

In 1993 SOFHA delivered the Printing on Demand (POD) Server. More flexibility, individuality and design possibilities were requested and the principle of page description was substituted by the document description, what Adobe's PDF is also based on.

In 1994, SOFHA became Adobe's independent European co-development partner.

In 1999 SOFHA opened their first office for the Americas at the U.S. west coast. An office in Japan for Asia and the Pacific Rim followed in 2000.

SOFHA's technology milestones include:

• 1984 development of the PostScript-compatible SofhaSCRIPT interpreter for high-end proofing and printing
• 1986 Bezier gate array chip for hardware acceleration of graphics printing
• 1986 release of SofhaSCRIPT, an AppleTalk-compatible network protocol
• 1992 development of PS², the first page-independent interpreter technology for POD Server products
• 1993 release of a POD Server (Printing-on-Demand Server) for the Xerox DocuTech
• 1994 SOFHA becomes Adobe Systems' independent European co-development partner
• 1995 release of the ProfiRIP - POD Server technology platform
• 1998/99 development of the DocuFLOW cluster printing and variable data printing technology
• 2001 incorporation of color to the DocuFLOW technology
• 2003 release of the POD Server, the complete end-to-end workflow solution
• 2003 release of the Color POD Server for high-volume color printing applications
• 2004 release of the Database Print Manager (DPM), a software package for variable data printing
• 2004 development of MultiFLOW, the most versatile innovation for professional on-demand printing
• 2005 Sofha became one of the very few Adobe co-development partners with full core source access for Postscript and PDF
• 2006 Sofha introduced their ProfiWeb2.0 technology together with their latest version of interactive printer driver technology
